Source: Belstaff | In the month of December, not really a top period for motorcyclists to hit the road, the Twins decided to ride the famous Scotland’s North Coast 500. The brothers picked up a pair of Harley-Davidson LiveWire motorbikes for their trip. The main idea was to encourage riders to get out this summer and also show that Scotland’s charging infrastructure can support electric vehicles. This is amongst “traditional” motorcyclists still a hot topic: Where are the charging points? How far can I go? etc. But electric travelling demands another mindset. And it’s part of the (new) adventure.

When you think of adventure, it doesn’t have to be far away,” Hugo says. “Scotland is a wild place, it can feel really remote. To say that you have to travel far to find wilderness is simply wrong.”

“Look at how many tourist buses there are around the UK,” Ross states. “They’re here saying, look how amazing this place is. A holiday doesn’t have to be hours on a plane.”

Hugo continues: “The UK is so accessible, and it has this incredible environment – whether that’s the North Coast 500, the Lake District or exploring Wales. There are some unbelievable areas to explore that are super accessible, especially by a motorbike. Places like Scotland have everything you could really want. The majesty of it is absolutely breathtaking.”

“We were doing 30mph through Glen Coe, visors up, just chatting to each other. Red stags and hinds everywhere. It was simply amazing. The silence was a really nice change.”

The weather conditions (December, remember?) in Scotland are unpredictable: 56 mile-per-hour winds, rain, sunny moments. Over the years Ross and Hugo really refined what kit and clothing works for them. “We end up with far less than we originally planned. A trip like this, you don’t want or need something new to wear every day – you can make a T-shirt last three or four days. It’s all fun, a part of the experience.”

“The advantage of the jackets we had,” Hugo says, noting that they wore similar jackets to Spain, too. “Is that they’re perfect from UK summer to the heights of the French Pyrenees, but also very waterproof in Scotland.

“You travel all through these places taking in the natural world, but the people you meet along the way add interesting stories to every journey,” says Hugo. “Getting away from home, meeting new people – that change of scene really adds to the adventure. Albeit our conversations are socially distanced, we met some really interesting people on this trip.”
